Hi Ankita,

Unfortunately none of our advisors have taken this class, but I’ve summarized advice that we have received from someone who has taken this class during the WI22 semester. In her experience, she enjoyed WGS 400 because they had guest lecturers every week, many of whom are physicians at UM and lecture on interesting topics. The course itself is very diverse, and covers many topics such as residency/specializations, reproduction and the environment, racial disparities in reproductive healthcare, influence of the government, data, and more. She did mention that some of the topics are difficult to listen to (sensitive topics) such as sexual assault/harassment. When she took the class, they also had to watch the Handmaid’s Tale, which was very interesting to her but also very sensitive and difficult topics to hear/watch about. She mentioned that in WGS 220, the content goes into depth about feminist theory/analysis, but for this class they assume you know how to use these feminist analyses well so they don’t go over the topics again. She did mention the final paper at the end was very long, 16 pages when she took the class, and advises you to stay on top of these check-ins when drafts are due, to get adequate feedback.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions, or feel free to stop by our office hours on Sundays-Wednesdays from 6-10pm.
