Pre-Med Q&ACategory: Scheduling and ClassesUpperlevel biology lab
AvatarM. asked 2 years ago

Hi, I read that most med schools require/recommend 1 year of biology w/ lab. I have Bio 173 already so I would need to take at least one more upper level bio lab? Does MCDB300+ independent research count? Or if I have taken BIO225 already but do not take 226, instead take another methods-based lab course(neuroscience major), that should count as an upper-level bio lab right?

Thank you for asking the question! I believe you do need another semester of upper biology lab to fulfill most medical school’s requirements. But I would go on to specific medical school websites to make sure. I believe as long as the method-based lab fulfills the neuroscience major’s lab requirement, it should probably be fulfilling the upper lab requirement. But again, different medical schools have different lab requirements for biology, so I would confirm the school’s admissions that you are interested in. I hope this is helpful!                                                                                                                                                          —- PMH Advisor Haitong
