Pre-Med Q&AShould I skip Bio 172 for Chem 130
AvatarLaura asked 6 months ago

Hello! I’m a freshman planning out my second semester.
I have taken Bio 171 in the fall and I’m wondering if it is necessary for me to take BIO 172 in order to take BIO 173.
I have planned to take CHEM 130 and BIO 173 in the winter will this work?
Thank you for your help!

Hi Laura,
If you look up Biology 173 on the LSA course guide, you will find this under advisory prerequisites:
“Students should have completed one of the introductory lecture courses [either BIOLOGY 171 or (172 or 174)] and be concurrently enrolled in the other.”
This means that if you plan to take Biology 173 next semester, you must also take Biology 172 or 174. I would recommend taking Biology 172 and Biology 173 next semester since your Biology knowledge will be the best having just completed Biology 171.
I hope that helps!
Best,
Miranda, PMH Advisor
