Pre-Med Q&ACategory: Scheduling and ClassesPre-med math requirement
AvatarI. asked 2 years ago

Hi! I have taken stats 250, and have on my transcript 2 credits for Math 120 and 2 credits for Math 121 both from AP credit. I have taken no other math classes in college. I was wondering if I am missing out on pre-med math requirements, do I need to take calculus or an upper level math class?

Hello!

Med schools typically require one semester of college math (which Stats 250 would fulfill) and most accept AP credit for Calculus as well (since it counts as college math). However, this requirement varies by school, so it’s safest to check each med school website for their specific math requirements. Check out this link to get an idea of what is required for med schools in terms of math: https://hpa.princeton.edu/sites/hpa/files/2017hpa-mathrequirements.pdf
*Note: this hasn’t been updated since 2017 so it’s still best to check with each individual school if they take AP Calc credit.
