Hello! I wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations on whether to take Chem 230 or 260? I have heard mixed answers, but I can\’t remember the difference between the two in terms of class style. Additionally, if you have taken Pchem, what other science class would you recommend pairing it with? Thank you!
Hello!
CHEM 230 is more heavily chemistry and premed based. It is more aligned with the MCAT and follows a flipped class style, meaning you watch videos at home and do team-based problems in class. I would recommend taking this course if you are looking for a class to really prepare you for the MCAT!
CHEM 260 is more math based and even covers one unit of quantum. Most of the grade is composed of exams and you get to use notecards on the exams.
In terms of what other science classes you should take, it depends on what type of learner you are. I can only speak for Chem 230, but that class is 3/4 math and 1/4 conceptual. Personally, I would recommend taking a more conceptual/memorization based class such as Biology 225. I recommend looking at our alums exit tickets to see what classes they took with Chem 230.
I hope this helps! Good luck with scheduling!
