I’m taking MCDB 310 right now and I am doing well. I am planning on studying for the MCAT this summer and taking it in August.  I was wondering, for people who took MCDB 310 right before they stated studying for the MCAT, did you have to do any significant biochem review? As in did the MCDB 310 content match up with pretty much all you had to know for the MCAT? By that I mean, if you have all your MCDB 310 content memorized, do you you think you are set for the biochem portion of MCAT?
Thanks! A.S.

Hi,

I hope you are doing well! I did the exact same thing, where I took MCDB 310 during the Winter semester and I took the MCAT in the late summer, and I didn’t need to do any significant biochemistry review during my content review phase. MCDB 310 prepares you well for the biochemistry topics that are covered on the MCAT, and I think it sometimes goes more in-depth than what is tested. So, if you are doing well and you are retaining the information, then you shouldn’t need to do much biochemistry review when studying for the MCAT. Like, I made an Anki deck for myself during MCDB 310 and I just continued using that during my studying and I pretty much always felt confident with the biochemistry questions on the MCAT. Additionally, if you ever need a quick refresher on a specific biochemistry topic when studying, I highly recommend watching AK Lectures as his videos are great for reviewing the content in a concise manner!

I hope this helps! Feel free to stop by our advising hours (on Sunday – Wednesday from 6 – 10 PM) if you have any further questions!
