How does withdrawal from a semester look for the admission commitee? I have not been doing very well in school this semester and am considering withdrawing from this semester. My family’s buisness is affected heavily due to covid and I have been trying to help out more lately by taking up more shifts. I’m also taking 18 semester hours with 3 upper level course. This semester hasn’t been the easiest with online school and with where I’m right now it dosen’t seem like I will be able to keep my GPA. Is it better to have multiple C/D’s than a W.
I also retroactive withdrawed my first semester of college due to a medical condition. Will this second one make me weed out through the admission comitee?

      Pre-Med Hub says:

Apologies for the late response. In terms of withdrawing semesters for mental health, family, or person reasons, that is always acceptable and med school admissions do not look down on such decisions. As for withdrawing from this second semester, I think it is best to speak to a pre-health advisor at your school, if possible. In general, it is recommended that you withdraw if your grade is below a C, but the circumstances vary for each student, which is why it may be better for you to direct this question to an advisor at your university. Overall, your personal reasons should always come first and while you may have to explain why you withdrew two semesters to med school committees, they should be understanding of the situation.
